For example, if your child is having a problem cussing, you can change the rating to a higher amount to be subtracted to discourage that behavior. If you would like to encourage making the bed each morning, you can raise the positive rating to give them more points for completing the task each day.

The behavior chart is set up with a list of positive or good behaviors and a list of negative or bad behaviors. Each behavior receives a positive or negative rating. This rating can be points or tokens, however you see fit. Good behaviors would receive positive points and bad behaviors would receive negative points. Each day the task or behavior is completed you would put the amount of points awarded for that behavior under the current day.

The there is a bonus column. If a particular behavior has received all positive or no negative ratings that week, you can give them bonus points for that behavior.

The last column is the total column.  At the end of each week, total all the points across, then total the points for the week. 

We recommend setting up rewards for the points or tokens. The reward could be monetary, but we recommend particular rewards, such as if your child wants go out for pizza, you can say, if you receive a total of 40 positive points this week, we will take you out to pizza at the restaurant of your choice. If a teen wants a particular brand of shoes, you could have them accumulate 200 points to receive those shoes.

Be realistic with your goals for rewards. If a child feels that the goal is unattainable, he/she will not even try to accomplish it. Start out with small goals with smaller rewards. Work up to larger goals with bigger rewards.
